What is Optimism ($OP)?

Optimism is a second layer (L2) scalability solution built on Ethereum, that allows users to perform faster and cheaper transactions on the blockchain. Optimism uses a technique called optimistic rollup, which consists of bundling transactions in batches and executing them on a sidechain, which syncs periodically with the mainchain of Ethereum. Optimism launched in 2021 as a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol that enables users to access various services and products based on the blockchain.
