[Important] Major changes to Bybit margin calculations for Perpetual and Futures contracts

Dear Trader,

Bybit will implement a major update to the margin calculation algorithm for Perpetual and Futures contracts starting Sep 2, 2025. These changes may affect your account and positions, so please read this carefully and take the necessary steps to manage your risk.

What’s changing?

- Cross Margin: The new Initial Margin will be used as the cost to maintain positions. Liquidation will be based on the updated Maintenance Margin Rate, calculated using the mark price.

- Isolated Margin: Liquidation will happen if the mark price hits the new liquidation price.

Why this matters to you?

Based on trial calculations using the new method, your account or positions may approach the new margin thresholds:

- Cross Margin: If your account’s margin level is above 80%

- Isolated Margin: If the mark price is within 10% of the new liquidation price

These changes won’t trigger any actions immediately but we recommend reviewing your positions and margin levels ahead of time to stay in control.

How to stay prepared

To manage your exposure and reduce potential risk, you can:

- Add funds: Deposit more assets to your account to improve your margin level.

- Reduce positions: Close or partially close your positions to lower your risk exposure.

- Repay liabilities: Settle any outstanding debts in your account.

You can now compare the current and upcoming margin calculations side-by-side within your account.

Transition timeline

- Now until Sep 2, 2025: Trial calculations available to help you assess and adjust.

- Starting Sep 2, 2025: The new margin rules will roll out gradually over 2 weeks.

- After full rollout: Liquidation will follow the updated rules for Cross and Isolated Margin.

Your risk limit tier may also adjust in real-time based on mark prices, which could increase margin requirements.
