Trezor raises the bar with a transparent and tamper-proof hardware wallet
Trezor has announced the launch of its newest hardware wallet, the Safe 7 — a device engineered to set a new benchmark in transparency, durability, and post-quantum security. With a price tag of $249, the wallet is currently available for preorder, with shipments expected to begin in about four weeks.

At the core of Safe 7 is a new chip, Tropic Zero One (TROPIC01), developed by TropicSquare, a sister company to Trezor. This chip is unique in that it forgoes the typical non-disclosure agreements that limit third-party verification. Instead, it is fully auditable, allowing independent experts to inspect its security features. If any tampering is detected, the chip is designed to automatically erase all sensitive data.
Safe 7 also features a dual secure element architecture — combining the open-source TROPIC01 with an NDA-free EAL6+ secondary chip. This layered setup provides both physical and cryptographic protection, keeping private keys completely isolated from the host system.
"From day one, Trezor has been open-source. With Safe 7, even the secure element itself is transparent — no NDAs, no secrets. True trust, verified."
—Tomaš Sušanka, Trezor CTO
In addition to transparency, the wallet introduces a quantum-ready architecture with a secure bootloader and authentication system designed to defend against future threats from quantum computing. When blockchain networks eventually adopt post-quantum algorithms, Safe 7’s firmware can be securely updated without replacing the hardware.
"Within the next decade, Bitcoin and other blockchains will have to move to post-quantum algorithms. It’s not a question of if, but when," Sušanka added. "That’s why we built a quantum-ready bootloader into Safe 7 — ensuring long-term trustworthiness and security."
Durable build meets enhanced functionality

Safe 7 also marks a leap in physical design. It features a single-piece anodized aluminum frame paired with Gorilla Glass 3 protection, offering both resilience and a minimalist aesthetic. With an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance, the wallet is built to withstand daily wear and tear.
Its 2.5-inch edge-to-edge color touchscreen is 62% larger than previous models, providing a significantly improved user interface. Powering the device is a 3.2V 330mAh LiFePO4 battery, chosen for its stability and safety even when fully discharged — and capable of delivering up to four times more charging cycles than standard lithium batteries.
"We didn’t compromise. We built the most durable, sustainable, and beautiful Trezor yet," said Head of Product Ada Budinsky.
Expanded customization and wireless control
Trezor is offering the Safe 7 in three colors — Obsidian Green, Charcoal Black, and Bitcoin Orange — with a suite of accessories such as a privacy screen protector, flip case, universal cover, and wireless charger.
Safe 7 introduces full wireless connectivity, supporting Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Qi2-compatible magnetic wireless charging. All wireless communication is secured through the Trezor Host Protocol (THP), an open-source layer ensuring encrypted, authenticated, and private connections across mobile, desktop, and tablet devices.
Through the Trezor Suite platform, users can manage thousands of coins and tokens, trade, stake, and access third-party integrations — all from one unified interface.
Designed for long-term self-custody
"At a time when convenience is pulling users toward custodians and ETFs, we believe it’s more important than ever to reinforce what self-custody really means — full control, without compromise," said Matěj Žák, CEO at Trezor. "Trezor Safe 7 is our answer: the first hardware wallet with a fully auditable secure element, dual-chip architecture, and wireless design built for the long term."
Trezor unveiled the Safe 7 during its Trustless by Design event in Prague, where it also introduced a Bitcoin-only version and announced a free Magnetic Qi2 Wireless Charger for early preorders.
With its blend of open-source security, post-quantum readiness, and durable design, Safe 7 aims to give users full control over their digital assets — both today and in the years to come.
The bottom line
By combining an auditable secure chip, dual-chip protection, quantum-resilient protocols, and premium hardware, the Trezor Safe 7 reflects a notable shift in hardware wallet innovation. As digital threats evolve, Safe 7 signals Trezor’s commitment to transparency, usability, and long-term user security.
