Adjustments to Maintenance Margin Calculations
To improve your trading experience, Bybit will be implementing changes to the calculations of Maintenance Margin for accounts with Risk Limits. Effective Apr 18, 2024, the stepwise calculations of Maintenance Margin will transition to a cumulative approach.
Affected Trading Pairs
All Perpetual and Futures trading pairs, including:
- USDT Perpetual
- USDC Perpetual and Futures
- Inverse Perpetual and Futures
Understanding Maintenance Margin Changes
Here is an example to illustrate how Maintenance Margin calculations will be adjusted.
Suppose Trader A holds positions worth 250,000 USDT.
- Before the adjustments:
Maintenance Margin = 250,000 × 3% = 7,500 USDT
- After the adjustments:
Maintenance Margin = 100,000 × 2% + 100,000 × 2.5% + 50,000 × 3% = 6,000 USDT
As shown in the example, Trader A's required Maintenance Margin has decreased.
How It Affects You
- Risk Limit Tier 2 and above: You'll generally see a notable reduction in Maintenance Margin, which in turn lowers your account's liquidation risk.
- Risk Limit Tier 1: The changes will have no impact on your Maintenance Margin required.
