Bitfinex Will Support the Ethereum (ETH) Network's Shapella Upgrade

We are pleased to announce that Bitfinex will support the Ethereum network’s Shanghai and Capella Upgrades, also known as Shapella. As stated in the Mainnet Shapella Announcement, this upgrade follows the Merge and enables the withdrawal of staked Ether (ETH) for the first time since ETH staking was introduced in December 2020. 

Additionally, there are several other Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) included that are designed to bring efficiency to the network as well as lower gas costs for developers.  Following the Shapella upgrade, Bitfinex customers will also be able to withdraw their staked ETH. More details on the ETH unstaking process on the Bitfinex platform will be provided later in a separate post.

The Shapella network upgrade will take place on the Ethereum network on 12/04/2023 at approximately 10:27 PM UTC.

Bitfinex customers’ account functionality, including trading, deposits, and withdrawals, will not be impacted by the upgrade.
