      What is Luno?

Luno is a global cryptocurrency exchange found in 2013(formerly named "BitX"), with over 5 million customers in over 40 countries and a team of over 300. "Luno" means "moon" in Esperanto, which was devised to be a universal language in the same way Bitcoin was created as a global currency. The company "Luno Pte. Ltd." is incorporated in Singapore. It has local entities in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, United Kingdom, which exist primarily to process users' local currency transactions and to provide other support to Luno's global business.

Who is the Founder of Luno?

Luno is founded by Marcus Swanepoel and Timothy Stranexexpert. The teams have worked all over the world for top tech and finance companies. They've been pulled together from Google, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, Barclays and others, on a mission to upgrade the world to a better financial system.

In 2013, the founders began to build the first fully integrated Bitcoin system for a major multinational bank and BitX exchange was born in the same year. In 2017, the team rebranded BitX as Luno to reflect the goal of upgrading the world to a better financial system. Luno became the first licensed exchange in Malaysia.

Following measures Luno has made to keep users' account security:

      • Deep freeze storage: The majority of customer Bitcoin funds are kept in what we call “deep freeze” storage. These are multi-signature wallets, with private keys stored in different bank vaults.
      • Hot wallet: Luno maintain a multi-signature hot wallet to facilitate instant Bitcoin withdrawals. We control one of the keys and the other is held by the multi-signature custodian leader BitGo.
      • Two factor authentication: Two-factor Authentication (2FA) is supported to provide another level of authentication and ensure complete peace of mind.

Although security measures have been implemented by cryptocurrency exchanges, it can't fully guarantee the security of users' funds. In addition to depositing funds on centralized cryptocurrency exchanges, users can also choose to transfer funds to reputable wallets to reduce risk. However, each method contains certain risks, users need to compare and choose the most appropriate one based on their specific conditions.
