What Is Equilibrium(EQ)?
Equilibrium is a one-stop DeFi platform on Polkadot that allows for high leverage in trading and borrowing digital assets. It combines a full-fledged money market with an order book-based DEX. EQ is the native utility token that is used for communal governance of Equilibrium. xDOT is a liquid and tradeable wrapped DOT that unlocks liquidity of DOT locked in parachain auctions and delivers multiple crowdloan bonuses on Polkadot.

he EQ token is the core utility asset of Equilibrium, used within products built on top of it. EQ tokens grants access to many of these productsʼ features and governance powers. The token is used for paying interest, paying fees, and governing the system. As such the EQ token will have several features:
- Staking opportunities EQ holders receive rewards on their tokens staked in governance, lending, and market making pools
- Bailout and collateral liquidity EQ tokens can be locked in bailout pools to secure loans and earn yield or used as collateral to take out loans
- Platform currency Users pay transaction fees for transacting on Equilibrium parachain and product fees in EQ
- Governance token EQ holders have a say in system changes
How Does Equilibrium Work?
- Risk Framework. Equilibriumʼs proposed risk framework, which is further divided into a risk model and a pricing model, revolves around the notion of credit risk. Credit risk is the risk of a loss resulting from the fact that a borrower or counterparty fails to fulfill its obligations under the agreed terms. In other words, the borrower either cannot pay or does not want to pay. In traditional finance, credit risk is related to almost all types of financial instruments.
- Baskets of collateral. Borrowers inside Equilibrium may hold multiple assets and liabilities on their account simultaneously (portfolio margining) and thus are subject to collateralization requirements (margin levels).
- Bailout mechanics for Liquidations. Equilibrium uses relative portfolio weights initially. For example, a bailsman with 10% of the entire bailout portfolio weight will receive a 10% share of user collateral and user debt respectively
