Revision of the Funding Rate Formula for KuCoin Perpetual Futures (2026-07-14)
To better align the funding fee charged in each settlement with different funding settlement intervals and further optimize the trading experience, KuCoin Futures will adjust the funding rate calculation formula for perpetual futures by introducing an 8/N normalization factor into the existing funding rate formula.

Current Funding Rate Formula
- Funding rate = clamp [ Average premium index clamp ( Interest rate − Average premium index, 0.05%, −0.05% ), Funding rate cap, Funding rate floor ]
Updated Funding Rate Formula
- Funding rate = clamp [ ( Average premium index clamp ( Interest rate − Average premium index, 0.05%, −0.05% ) ) / ( 8 / N ), Funding rate cap, Funding rate floor ]
Where:
- N represents the funding settlement interval (in hours).
Impact by Funding Settlement Interval
- 8-hour interval (N = 8): ÷1 (No change from the current formula)
- 4-hour interval (N = 4): ÷2 (The funding rate per settlement is reduced by half.)
- 2-hour interval (N = 2): ÷4 (The funding rate per settlement is reduced to one-quarter of the current level.)
- 1-hour interval (N = 1): ÷8 (The funding rate per settlement is reduced to approximately one-eighth of the current level.)
Initial Rollout Contracts
The updated formula will first be applied to the following perpetual futures contracts:
- LABUSDT
- DOTUSD
- SUIUSDC
- XPTUSDT
- ORCLUSDT
- KNCUSDT
- SPKUSDT
- LRCUSDT
- BANANAUSDT
- TRIAUSDT
- AIOTUSDT
- MANTRAUSDT
- ZKCUSDT
- IOTXUSDT
- MAGICUSDT
Potential Impact
- This adjustment will take effect after the funding settlement at 8:00 (UTC) on July 14, 2026. The updated funding rate formula will be applied starting from the next funding settlement for each contract. Specifically, contracts with 1-hour, 4-hour, and 8-hour funding settlement intervals will first settle funding under the new formula at 9:00 (UTC), 12:00 (UTC), and 16:00 (UTC) on the same day, respectively.
- For perpetual futures contracts with an 8-hour funding settlement interval, there will be no changes to the funding rate calculation or the funding fee charged per settlement.
- For perpetual futures contracts with 4-hour, 2-hour, and 1-hour funding settlement intervals, the funding rate applied to each settlement will be adjusted under the new formula. Users are advised to monitor funding rate changes and evaluate potential funding costs based on their expected holding period.
- Users holding positions across funding settlement times are advised to closely monitor funding rate changes and manage their positions accordingly to mitigate potential funding cost risks.
Following the initial rollout, KuCoin Futures will gradually extend this optimization to additional perpetual futures contracts based on the rollout results. Further announcements will be made in due course.
